After being derelict for over 200 years until the 1920’s, the Hall and gardens were lovingly restored and the Hall is now open to the public, attracting thousands of visitors every year.
As part of their fire safety strategy, the estate team acknowledged the existing fire alarm system had issues. Kevin Lowe, Fire Safety Coordinator at Haddon Hall says: “The existing fire alarm system was very difficult to understand. We had problems testing the system, isolating zones and we had repetitive false alarms when the system showed there was no issue.”
The existing fire alarm was also becoming obsolete, meaning replacement parts wouldn’t be available within 3 years, so a new fire alarm system was imperative for the future safety of the Hall.
Kevin continues: “Lord and Lady Manners also expressed a wish to take up residence within the Hall. To enable this to happen, we needed to review the fire risk assessment to ensure the Hall was safe to be used for residential purposes and not just the visiting public.”
A comprehensive fire risk assessment was conducted by Trust Security, part of the BusinessWatch Group. The assessment identified any areas of risk that needed to be addressed, and recommended that the fire alarm system was upgraded to L 1 category to allow for residential use.
Graham White, Branch Director of Trust Security said: “We had several issues with choosing a suitable system for Haddon Hall. Ensuring all areas of the Hall were protected was challenging, not least because of the thickness of the walls in some areas. We also had to take into account the antique interior and the need to be sympathetic to the decor of the Hall.”
A wireless EMS analogue fire alarm system was recommended, utilising remote cluster communicators which ensured signals were effectively relayed from the detectors back to the fire alarm panel. Additional heat and smoke detectors were also installed, ensuring complete coverage of all areas of the Hall.
Lord and Lady Edward Manners commented: “Upon meeting Graham and
the team at Trust Security we were confident that they were the company to install our new fire safety system. Graham’s expert knowledge on fire safety is second to none. The system was also installed at a time to suit us, whereby closure of the Hall to the public wasn’t necessary. We’re now safe in the knowledge that our family and visiting members of the public are safe from the threat of fire.”
