A fire risk assessment is fundamental to the development of a robust fire safety strategy and is a legal requirement of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The aim of the assessment is to make buildings safer places to be, by reducing the likelihood of a fire occurring and reducing the consequences for persons in the building.
Our expert fire risk surveyors have years of experience in conducting assessments at all sizes of business premises and are accredited with the Institute of Fire Engineers.
What is a Fire Risk Assessment?
A fire risk assessment is an organised and methodical look at your premises, the activities carried on there and the likelihood that a fire could start and cause harm to those in and around the premises.
The aims of the assessment are:
- To identify the fire hazards
- To identify the people that may be at risk from the hazards
- Evaluate the severity of the risk to those people
- Determine whether the existing control measures are adequate, and implement additional control measures where appropriate
As part of your Fire Risk Assessment, we produce for you a plain English document that details all the above.
Who Needs a Fire Risk Assessment?
If you occupy business premises it is most likely that you are required by law to carry out an assessment. The law requires the following buildings to have a fire risk assessment:-
- Offices
- Shops
- Factories
- Places of assembly, such as pubs and clubs
- Hotels, guest houses and boarding houses
- Houses in multiple occupation
- Schools
- Blocks of flats
- Residential care and nursing homes
If you employ 5 or more people, the significant findings of the assessment must be recorded.
How Much is a Fire Risk Assessment?
The cost of an assessment varies depending on the type and size of the building, the complexity of the internal arrangements and processes being carried out in the building. We can also provide a plan of the building to support the fire risk assessment, which will show all fire safety provisions and certain hazards.
However, BusinessWatch prides itself on providing cost-effective services to our clients and delivering good quality fire risk assessments in accordance with PAS79-1:2020, the British Standard specification and methodology for undertaking the fire safety risk assessment.
