Fire Alarm Zone Plans

At BusinessWatch, we’ll provide you with compliant and fully customised Fire Alarm Zone Plans for your buildings and sites. We’ll work closely with you to ensure an accurate and clear design that is easy to understand and interpret in the event of a fire or emergency.

What is a Fire Alarm Zone Plan?

A Fire Alarm Zone Plan is an internal layout of a building, in a diagrammatic format, highlighting all the key fire detection zones. These fire detection zones are where the fire alarms are located and therefore in the event of a fire, the Fire Alarm Zone Plan can be used to quickly identify where the fire could be located or had occurred. The zone plans will also show other key building elements such as stairways and exits to help the viewer understand the plan more efficiently and will be located near the site’s fire alarm control panel.

Do I need a Fire Alarm Zone Plan?

It’s a legal requirement for commercial buildings to have a customised, up-to-date Fire Alarm Zone Plan and for it to be located near to or on the fire alarm control panel. The requirement is stated under the British Standards BS5839-1:2017 and must be an accurate diagrammatic interpretation of the building.

Why are they important?

Fire Alarm Zone plans are important for a number of reasons, however, the overarching reason is that they help to quickly and efficiently identify which fire alarm was initially set off. This indicates in which zone the fire is likely to have started. The emergency services can look at the Fire Alarm Zone Plan and identify where the source of the fire is located, as well as the quickest route to tackle it, therefore minimising potential damage to the site and individuals inside. Individuals inside the building can also use the zone plans to find the best exit route and avoid the zone in which the fire could be active.
